Best used: Use pheromone lures to catch and detect pepper weevils (Anthonomus eugenii) in both gardens and greenhouses.

How does it work?

Pheromone lures release a species-specific, hormone-like factor that attracts adult male pepper weevils to the trap. You can use the lures to help detect, identify and assess the size of an Anthonomus eugenii infestation by examining and counting the pests caught in the trap.

    How do I use it?

    • Store pheromone lures below 4°C, preferably frozen (-18°C).
    • Open the product sachet carefully, making sure not to touch the pheromone dispenser; manual contact can spread the attractant to other areas.
    • Place the lure on the sticky plate of a DELTATRAP and hang the trap in a suitable location: about 10 cm above the plants, in a spot where you can inspect it easily.
    • Distribute the traps as evenly as possible among the plants to avoid interference.
    • Wash your hands thoroughly after assembling pheromone traps targeting one species before handling any lures/traps aimed at detecting a different species.
    • Replace the lure in the trap every six weeks, but only with dispensers containing the same type of pheromone.

    Important!

    • Never try to open the “plastic tube” part of the pheromone dispenser; otherwise the pheromone will evaporate almost immediately and completely. The plastic tube is permeable by design, and the pheromone will gradually diffuse out and into the air in a controlled manner.
    • Number each trap and indicate the type of pheromone it contains on the outside.
    • Take note of the production date printed on the packaging: pheromone lures have a shelf life of 2 years after the production date when stored in a freezer and 1 year when stored in a refrigerator (4-6°C).
    • Expect a higher-than-usual trapping rate for the first few days following the installation of a new lure because a newly-opened dispenser temporarily releases higher levels of pheromones.
