Cannabis & Pest Control

Troublesome pests such as spider mites, aphids, and thrips are posing challenges across various cannabis cultivation spaces, as the legalization of cannabis in Canada has resulted in a rise in pest transmission between facilities and home growers. Moreover, the majority of conventional pesticides are prohibited for use in this crop, making eco-friendly alternative choices like biological pest control methods essential.

In the provided tables, you'll find our recommended products for each pest, accompanied by prevention and elimination rates. Prevention involves safeguarding the crop from pest damage, while elimination focuses on removing pests from the crop.

Monitoring

To effectively monitor and control pests in cannabis grow rooms, use a minimum of 4 Yellow Horiver Wetstick cards per grow room. Place approximately one card per 20-40 square meters or one card per 20-40 lights. These sticky cards are essential for detecting and monitoring thrips, whiteflies, aphids, and sciarid flies. Count and assess the cards weekly to identify any increases in pest populations.

Conduct weekly crop inspections by thoroughly examining plants from the soil to the canopy. Check the soil, stems, leaves, and leaf joints for signs of pests. Perform leaf flips to inspect both the upper and lower surfaces of leaves, focusing on new and older growth, as pests can hide on the underside of leaves where they are less likely to be disturbed.

To prevent introducing pests to your main growing area, quarantine new plants in a separate area for at least two weeks before integrating them with your established crops. Inspect all incoming plant material upon arrival. Carefully examine plants for pests or signs of damage, especially when sourcing clones or transplants.

Following these practices ensures a proactive approach to pest control, minimizing the risk of infestations and promoting a healthy, productive cannabis crop.
