White Phytoseiulus persimilis – Predatory Mite

How It Works: Phytoseiulus persimilis hunts and feeds on pests by piercing them with its mouthparts and extracting their internal fluids. The breeder sachets will release predatory mites over a 2-week period.

Target Pests: Controls all stages of the Two-Spotted Spider Mites (Tetranychus urticae).

Best Use: as a preventative or light curative against the two-spotted spider mite.

Shelf Life: within 1-2 days of receipt.

Important Information Before Use:

  • Do not open sachets upon arrival. They already have a pin-sized hole for predatory mites to exit naturally.
  • Difference between Spidex Red: different stages of the persimilis are present (eggs, nymphs, adults), has a (non-pest) food source in the bottle, and there is proof of predation. The persimilis will turn red once they have fed on spider mites in the crop.
  • Predatory mites are very small—typically 0.3 to 0.6 mm in size. This means they are difficult to spot with the naked eye.

Step 1: Arrival

Upon arrival, please ensure that you place the product out immediately or within 1-2 days of receipt. Do not store the product in the fridge; instead, place the sachets in a cool, dark place around 14°C until use.

Step 2: Placement

Hold sachets by the cardboard strip at the top to avoid damaging the predatory mites. Hang the sachets on the middle leaves and stems of your plants, so they are not in direct sunlight.  Ensure they are evenly distributed across your crop, focusing on areas with the highest pest activity potential.  Do not cut open the sachets. These sachets come with holes.

Step 3: Repeat Applications

To keep a predatory mite army in your crop, you will want to introduce additional sachets every 2 weeks.

What to Expect Upon Arrival:

  • Sachets will be packed in a protective box to ensure safe transport.
  • Each sachet contains predatory mites in a carrier material, along with food for their survival.
  • You may notice little movement upon arrival (tiny predatory mites). This is normal.
  • You can do a quick check on the sachets by downloading this video: Quick Check Sachets
