Steinernema feltiae – Entomopathogenic nematodes

How It Works: Steinernema feltiae nematodes will enter the pest larvae and release symbiotic bacteria into the body cavity. This bacteria converts the larval tissue into a food source, on which the nematodes feed, develop and reproduce. The host pest dies within a few hours to days after infection.

Target Pests:

Best Use: Apply when larvae of the target pests are present in your growing space.

Shelf Life: Up to 6 weeks from the week of delivery.

Articles:

Step 1: Arrival

Upon arrival, please ensure that you place the product out immediately or place in the fridge between 2-6C. Use the entire package before the best-before date, which can be found on the back of the product box.

Step 2: Environmental Conditions

  1. Soil and air temperatures must be between 14-34C.
  2. Do not use in direct sunlight. Best applied during a cloudy or rainy day or later in the evening.
  3. For foliar application, spray Entonem when relative humidity exceeds 75% for several hours after treatment.

Step 3: Preparation

  1. Remove the sachets from the box and keep them at room temperature for 30 minutes.
  2. Empty the contents of the sachets into a bucket containing at least 2 liters of water per sachet (water temperature: 15-20°C/59-68°F).
  3. Stir well and leave the contents to soak for five minutes.
  4. Stir again and pour the contents of the bucket into the unit you are using to apply the product.
  5. Apply directly after preparation of the spray solution.

Nematodes can be applied by a hose-end sprayer, watering can spray tank, airblast sprayer, sprinkler system, irrigation system, backpack sprayer, or vehicle-mounted spray unit.

  • To avoid blockage, all filters should be removed, especially if finer than 0.3 mm (50 mesh).
  • Use a maximum pressure of 20 bar/290 psi (on nozzle).
  • The spray nozzle opening should be at least 0.5 mm (500 microns – 35 mesh) - preferably high flow rate cone nozzle types.
  • Avoid sprayers equipped with centrifugal or piston pumps
  • Water temperature must not exceed 25°C/77°F

If using a spray tank:

  1. Maintain agitation of the mixture in the tank (e.g. with a recirculation pump). Continuous mixing should take place to prevent nematodes from sinking to the bottom of the spray tank.
  2. Fill the spray tank with the required amount of water.
  3. If you are tank mixing with a compatible product, add Larvanem at the end to a filled tank.

Step 4: Application

  1. Distribute the solution evenly over the soil/medium or plant surface you are treating.
  2. Soil Rate: 250,000-500,000 nematodes per meter square.
  3. Foliar Rate: 1-3mill nematodes per liter.
  4. Keep soil moisture high after application. When possible irrigate the crop before and right after application.
