Neoseiulus cucumeris – Predatory Mite

How It Works: Neoseiulus cucumeris hunts and feeds on pests by piercing them with its mouthparts and extracting their internal fluids. The breeder sachets contain 100 predatory mites and will release these predatory mites over a 3-4 week period.

Target Pests: Feeds on the larvae of Western Flower Thrips, Onion Thrips, and other thrips species.

Best Use: as a preventative or light curative against the above pests when relative humidity is between 75-95% (greenhouses).

  • In cooler growing conditions, between 15-20C.
  • Typically used in ornamental crops, especially in potted plants like hanging baskets.

Shelf Life: within 1-2 days of receipt.

Important Information For Use:

  • Do not use Swirski, Thripex, Anso-mite, and Limonica on the same plants at the same time. These are generalist predatory mites, and if applied together, they may attack and eat each other instead of targeting pests. Always choose one type of generalist predatory mite per application.
  • Predatory mites are very small—typically 0.3 to 0.6 mm in size. This means they are difficult to spot with the naked eye.

Step 1: Arrival

Upon arrival, please ensure that you place the product out immediately or within 1-2 days of receipt. Do not store the product in the fridge; instead, place the sachets in a cool, dark place around 14°C until use.

Step 2: Placement

  1. Hooks: Hold sachets by the cardboard strip at the top to avoid damaging the predatory mites. Hang the sachets on the middle leaves and stems of your plants, so they are not in direct sunlight.  Ensure they are evenly distributed across your crop, focusing on areas with the highest pest activity potential.  Do not cut open the sachets. These sachets come with holes.
  2. Sticks: Hold sachets by the stick so as not to crush the predatory mites. Insert sachets into the center of the pot so they are shaded and touching the stem of the plant and the top of the substrate to ensure longevity.

Step 3: Repeat Applications

To keep a predatory mite army in your crop, you will want to introduce additional sachets every 3-4 weeks.

What to Expect Upon Arrival:

  • Sachets will be packed in a protective box to ensure safe transport.
  • Each sachet contains predatory mites in a carrier material, along with food for their survival.
  • You may notice little movement upon arrival (tiny predatory mites). This is normal.
  • You can do a quick check on the sachets by downloading this video: Quick Check Sachets
