Bombus impatiens – Bumblebees

Description: Bombus impatiens colony with queen, workers and brood (pupae, eggs and larvae), bag with sugar solution.

How It Works: Worker bumblebees immediately begin pollinating while collecting pollen to feed the brood. Over the following weeks, more workers emerge, increasing colony size and pollination efficiency. The colony peaks before gradually declining. Development depends on environmental conditions and pollen availability.

Best Use: On crops with a high amount of flowers per m2, crops grown under artificial light and in warmer climates, like tomatoes, strawberries, and peppers.

Target Crops: Tomatoes, Peppers, Strawberries, etc.

Shelf Life: within 1-2 days of receipt. 

Step 1: Arrival 

Upon arrival, please ensure that you place the product out immediately or within 1 day of receipt. Do not store the product in the refrigerator; instead, place the hive in a quiet location at around 15-25°C until use.

Step 2: Placement 

Place the hive on a horizontal platform (avoid inclination, otherwise sugar water may leak). Wait at least 15 minutes after positioning the hive before opening the hive entrance. This allows the bumblebees to calm down. Pull the blue sliding door of the hive upward until two openings become visible (entrance and exit). Do not remove the small grey door under the lid.

Summer: Position the hive about 20-60 cm above the ground in the shade of the crop, or if necessary, provide a shade structure. 

Winter: Under short-day conditions (<10 hours of light), position the hive near the top of plants, in such a way that the hive is exposed to the first daylight.

How to use Natupol Excel from Koppert

Hygiene: 

  • Never move a hive from one greenhouse to another
  • Remove bumblebee hives 10 weeks after introduction
  • Clean the hive stand before placing new hives

What to Expect Upon Arrival:

  • Bumblebee hives will be shipped in a cardboard box via UPS with a cap on the sugar water to avoid spillage. Upon arrival, take this cap off. 

Most of our products contain living organisms; therefore, we must follow specific procedures to guarantee their safe transportation from our door to yours.

All orders received before Wednesday (3:00 pm EST) will ship the following week. We guarantee the product will arrive before end of day Saturday.

If there is a holiday the ship day will be delayed one (1) business day.

Orders are not shipped or delivered on Sundays or holidays.

We do not ship to P.O. boxes. Have your order sent to a physical address or direct to a UPS/Purolator Depot.

We do not ship to territories.

Due to wildlife regulations in Newfoundland and Labrador, we require a copy of your permit to possess & import live wildlife before we can send you beneficial insects.
